The dangers of broadcast submission services

Question:  Someone asked me recently: "Aren't there companies who say they submit to over 300 search engines or some even 1000 including international for free?  If so, why do companies like your charge a feee for submission services?"

Answer:  I've seen those claims and even was foolish enough to believe the hype once upon a time.  No more.  If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it, right?  Everyone would succeed instantly on the Internet and would soon be raking in thousands of dollars per month in cash.  Most of the hype you hear is from those who are trying to pray upon those who don't know how SEO and Internet Marketing really work. It's like dangling a credit card teaser rate in front of your nose, hoping you'll nibble so they can charge you outrageous fees later on.

A good Internet Marketer will keep your site out of harms way and from those who would use your site the wrong way.  You won't get dinged for spamming or for choosing the wrong directories to link to.  They use only white hat SEO techniques that are proven and approved by Google's Webmaster quality guidelines and won't do anything that will get a client blacklisted (like what happened to BMW.de a while back; it took them a long time to get back in Google's good graces).

An Internet Marketers Monthly services should include:

- Web position ranking reports (where does your site place on the major search engines?)
- Follow-on research to ensure your site is optimized for the latest popular keyphrases
- On-page optimization refinement based on analytical feedback
- Web analytics
-- how many people visited your site last month?
-- Which location did they visit from?  New York?  Panama?  Germany?
-- How did they find you?  Google?  Yahoo?  MSN?  Blogs?  MySpace?
-- Which pages on your site are most popular?
-- How long are people staying on your site?  How many pages did they look at on average?
-- Which keyphrases did people use to find your site? (one of my favorite reports)
- Submissions to 3-5 directories (the only right way to do this is slowly over time to avoid the impression you are a spammer)
- Posting articles on the site and optimizing new content
- Consultation is ongoing as needed

In summary, there is no quick way to achieve internet riches.  It's hard work and an internet marketing consultant is a great resource to help avoid scams and trouble.

Great article. I used one of those services when I first put up my website and found myself bombarded with SPAM. I've learned to trust experts like you to get the job done right. Thanks for the tips!
