Link building is perhaps one of the most important aspects of SEO. If you do a search on "click here", which webpage do you think is at the #1 position of Google? If you guessed the Adobe Acrobat Reader download page, you are correct. Virtually every webpage that offers a PDF to view provides a link to download Adobe's PDF reader that says, "Click Here to download Adobe Acrobat." Here are a few tips to leverage link building to improve search rankings for your site.
Articles: Write as many articles as possible using topics selected from a keyword research list of relevant phrases. The articles should be theme-optimized to the selected phrase. You can submit your articles for use and distribution to a lot of article directories. Just do a search on "article directories" or "article databases" and you will find a bunch.
Press Releases: Look for newsworthy company events to brag about. Some examples of articles we have submitted are: new site launched, company or individual awards, achievements, new product lines, new locations, community involvement efforts, etc. Keep them to approximately 1 page and keep the theme focused on a targeted key phrase if possible.
Directories: There are thousands of directories. Do a search on "directory of directories" and you will find plenty of free and paid directory services. DO NOT try to add all your links at once. Keep adding incoming links monthly and slowly. Some are very beneficial, some not, but the end result is more links and more traffic (somewhat). Just be careful who you submit to. You get more relevancy when you are listed on industry specific directories than those that will take any link.
